How to Apply for a Homestead Exemption in Dallas Counties
A Homestead exemption on property tax is available on a property that you own and occupy as your principal place of residence as of January 1 of each year.
Your county’s appraisal district may automatically send an application form to all new property owners around the first of February, if you do not receive the application or if you need additional information, contact your county appraisal district to apply no later than April 30 of the year for which you are seeking the exemption.
In order to qualify for a residential homestead exemption, you must provide a copy of your Texas driver’s license or state-issued personal identification certificate to the Appraisal District when submitting your application. In most cases, the address on your driver’s license or state-issued personal identification certificate must match the physical address of the residence for which you are submitting the application.
